Words fail me:

BRIAN WILLIAMS: The folks who say you should have asked for some sort of sacrifice from all of us after 9/11, do they have a case looking back on it?

GEORGE W. BUSH: Americans are sacrificing. I mean, we are. You know, we pay a lot of taxes. America sacrificed when they, you know, when the economy went into the tank. Americans sacrificed when, you know, air travel was disrupted. American taxpayers have paid a lot to help this nation recover. I think Americans have sacrificed.

But I thought he cut taxes! Living in George Bush's America is so confusing.

Atrios reads the latest from Lieberman and is appropriately disgusted. I'm more startled by this quote:

But I believe that Ned Lamont's strategy ... will lead to ... al-Qaida ... launching ... terrorist strikes against ... the United States.

And despite all those suspicious-looking ellipses, that actually is a fair paraphrase of what he said and what he clearly meant.

How is this different from Dick Cheney's comments about the "al Qaeda types" in the Democratic party who are "betting on the proposition that ultimately they can break the will of the American people"?

I thought Lieberman was a pathetic loser in 2000. He's gotten worse.

Quote of the day:

If Jesus were alive today, He’d shoot any motherfucker who dared call His birthday a “holiday.”

Think Progress:

To justify the war, Bush informed Congress on March 19, 2003 that acting against Iraq was consistent with “continuing to take the necessary actions against international terrorists and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001.”

George W. Bush, today:

Q: What did Iraq have to do with the attack on the World Trade Center?”

A: “Nothing!”

Go watch for yourself. Here (longer version) or here (shorter version, crappy sound, equally incoherent).

Fearless Leader, today:

"The strategy is to help the Iraqi people achieve the objectives and dreams which is a democratic society ... We’re not leaving so long as I’m the president. That would be a huge mistake."

Billmon deconstructs:

At this point, I would say Shrub is acting like a hedgehog on hallucinogens. His one big integrative idea -- exporting American-style "democracy" to Iraq at the point of a gun -- has proven fatally, disasterously wrong, but he can't let go of it, because it's the only idea he's got. He's fully vested in it, like a '90s e-trader who decided to throw caution to the wind, empty his retirement account and bet it all on pets.com stock.

Here's a question I hadn't thought to ask until today:

Is Dick Cheney a Sith Lord?

Hmmm. Sith lords are "devoted to the dark side of the Force and are expected to draw on their anger, fear, and hatred in order to gain power." They live by this philosophy:

Fear leads to anger.
Anger leads to hate.
Hatred leads to power.
Power leads to victory.
Let your anger flow through you.
Your hate will make you strong.
True power is only achieved through
testing the limits of one's anger,
passing through unscathed.
Rage channeled through anger is unstoppable.
The dark side of the Force
offers unimaginable power.
The dark side is stronger than the light.
The weak deserve their fate.

Yeah, sounds like Dick to me.

Much more believable than the notion that Bush is a Sith lord. Please.

Roy saves some of his best writing for mocking Jonah Goldberg:

It is my custom at this point to say "This is the stupidest thing Jonah Goldberg has ever written, and will remain so until he writes something else" -- but actually I don't know if he can top this one. It's so catastrophically dumb that, when I showed it to some single-celled organisms, they rolled their nuclei at it.

Brilliant.
